What is slow fashion and why does it matter?
Let's change the way we shop, and how we buy clothes. Slow fashion is about consuming and creating fashion consciously and with integrity. It's about maintaining social and environmental awareness, buying responsibly, and investing in high-quality, well-made pieces that will last a long time.
All of our items are handmade with pure man-power, by some incredible artisans in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada.
Let's talk about materials...
We have chosen to knit all of our hats and accessories with 100% Peruvian and Merino wool fibres.
Why?
Many knit items are made with acrylic or other synthetic materials. Acrylic yarns are manufactured from a plastic compound called acryonitrile, which requires a massive amount of fossil fuels and releases toxic fumes into the air and atmosphere. Each time you wash an acrylic garment, hundreds of thousands of micro-plastics are released into the water. Additionally, when these garments are discarded, they can take hundreds of years to biodegrade.
Know better, do better. We are not about shaming, but about informing, so that we can all begin to make better choices, one purchase at a time.
Our yarns are all 100% wool, which means they contain no synthetic materials, are naturally biodegradable, and are all ethically and sustainably sourced. Wool is an incredibly sustainable resource - as sheep grow new wool naturally!
We sourced our wool from companies that follow the highest ethical standards - they are all mulesing free, fair trade, OEKO-TEX certified, and follow the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Long story short, we have sourced the best of the best when it comes to our wool!
You may have questions about some of the other materials that we use in our products, and we want to be completely open and transparent about that. Our poms are currently made from synthetic materials. As we are not comfortable with using real fur for our poms, this is our next best option, but we are actively sourcing out new faux fur materials that are made as sustainably as possible, from recycled materials, and we hope to be able to continue to use the best materials possible.
Our slippers are made from genuine suede leather. This is a natural by-product from the farming industry, and so while we love that the material is natural and eco-friendly, we are also committed to using leather scraps (rather than new material) whenever possible.
